Mission & Vision
The power of the printed word as told by the Plantin-Moretus Museum, and its impact on people and society.
Managed with intent
This establishment, used to inspire and transform society, deserves the very best care. It should remain accessible to both the public and academics, forging connections with the local neighbourhood, city, and region in which it is housed – all while supporting sustainable relationships, maintaining healthy finances, and encouraging digital development.
A powerful mission
In an increasingly digital world, the printed word still stands strong. This power is present at the museum, once a real home. A home that happened to house a world-renowned printing office across the courtyard. A home that raised nine generations of the Plantin-Moretus family, all working tirelessly on books that would change the course of history. Using unparalleled printing techniques, they spread knowledge, shaped ideas, and sparked inspiration – past, present, and future. The museum brings that story to life, making you realise that the impact of the printed word will always leave its traces.
A masterful vision
The Plantin-Moretuses were pioneers – so it makes sense that the museum shares a similar pioneering spirit. This spirit reflects itself in the ambition for the highest quality, a forward-thinking identity, by establishing sustainable partnerships, involving the local neighbourhood, responding to current events, and welcoming everyone with open arms. Our vision is an open book, with eight clear motives:
- We care for our heritage, with head and heart
- We build bridges, locally and globally
- We involve the neighbourhood, city, and region
- We welcome diversity, dialogue, and shared ownership
- We invest in sustainable relationships, technology, and entrepreneurship
- We unite people, ideas, and the past and present
- We spark the imagination and stimulate the senses of all, without prejudice
- We aim to excel in all that we do
