Finding your way round the museum

Explore the home and business premises of Plantin and the Moretus family on your own, with an audio play, booklet or game. Or take a guided tour.

Floor plan

You will receive a floor plan at the museum reception desk. The plan will take you round the museum’s high points in an hour.

Museum guide

Would you like to take a little longer? Then borrow a free visitors’ guide from the bookcase in the corridor. You won’t be overwhelmed by texts, labels and captions in the museum. Eager for more? If so, the visitors’ guide is definitely worth reading.
After you’ve finished using it, put the book back on the bookcase for the next visitor. You will also find all the texts here.

Audio Play

New three-dimensional audio techniques are used to make you feel like a time traveller entering a busy house and printing works. The audio play is not a classic audio tour, but brings the rooms and their former occupants to life in an amusing way.

  • The audio play is part of the Antwerp Museum App, which is crammed full with exclusive information and interesting tours of Antwerp and its museums.
  • Download the Antwerp Museum App onto your smartphone (Android or iOS) and bring your own earphones or buy a set from the museum reception desk for 1 euro.
  • No smartphone or you don't want to download the app? No worries. For 3 euros you can rent a device with headphones at the desk.

Family game

On a trip with the kids? Ask at the desk for the free family game Red Balthasar. It’s a fun way for children to discover the house and its occupants and staff. Turn detective with the whole family and solve this completely fictional murder drama. (available in Dutch only)

And there's more

Browse through replicas of famous Plantin editions, dress up in contemporary costume or take a selfie sitting behind the counter of the old shop.

Guided tour

A guide takes you round the house and the printing works and tells you all about the Plantin-Moretus family and activities in the print shop, office and house. Find out all about this intriguing family business of the past.
