A new Reading Room and a new Collection Storage

140 years after the sale of the residence of the Plantin-Moretus publishing dynasty to the city of Antwerp, the Museum is getting a new building with a reading room and collection storage.

Reading room

The Museum Plantin-Moretus has an extensive library, including printed works from the Officina Plantiniana. The manuscript collection and the Print Room collection are also priceless. All works may be consulted. The construction of a new reading room on Heilige Geeststraat will provide updated facilities that are more accessible and adapted to today’s requirements.

The city is footing the bill for the building work. For the interior fixtures and fittings, the Museum still needs to raise 75.000 euros.

Collection storage

From September 2016, the Museum’s precious archives, fragile drawings, outstanding manuscript collection and typographical collection will be housed in a specially designed collection storage. The current depot does not meet conservation requirements, as the items kept there are subject to both flooding and mould risks.

The Museum is therefore building a new collection storage on Heilige Geeststraat. For the interior fixtures and fittings, the Museum still needs to raise 75.000 euros.
